Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds confirms release date and unexpected characters

In this post you'll learn everything about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which promises to blend nostalgia and surprises. Characters from various franchises join the classic Sonic cast for an unforgettable interdimensional race.

The old rivalry between Mario and Sonic is more alive than ever. With the recent release of Mario Kart World alongside the Switch 2 , many people thought Nintendo's reign in the genre would remain unbeatable. However, then came Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds , stepping on the gas with a bold proposition. The game, arriving in September , promises a cast full of unexpected guests and tracks that blend nostalgia with crazy surprises.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

A race that goes beyond the world of Sonic

It's impossible to talk about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds without mentioning the collaborations that transformed the game into a true interdimensional party. During the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, the announcement of the Season Pass brought names that no one expected. Characters like Steve, Creeper, and Alex, straight from Minecraft, will share the tracks with beloved Nickelodeon figures. SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even Aang and Korra from the Avatar series got in on the action.

These characters appear in settings completely adapted to their stories. In fact, one of the highlights of the trailer is the Bikini Bottom track. You'll be driving between the Krusty Krab and the clumsy attacks of a Plankton-inspired robot. SEGA clearly bet big on the surprise factor with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

High-profile appearances in the cast

In addition to the familiar faces from Sonic Team, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds includes names from other Japanese franchises. Hatsune Miku, Joker (from Persona 5), and Ichiban Kasuga (from Yakuza: Like a Dragon) will be available for free. These additions aren't just filler: they are characters with large fan bases and have been driving active communities for years. Each one brings their own themed car and special effects on the tracks.

For those who choose the Digital Deluxe edition, there are extra rewards. It guarantees three days of early access and three characters from the animated series Sonic Prime, a hit on Netflix. In addition, two more partnerships are planned, meaning the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds roster is set to grow even further.

SEGA hasn't forgotten those who have been here since the beginning. The game features all the main characters from the franchise: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and the dreaded Dr. Eggman are confirmed .

This mix of classic and guest characters makes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds one of the most ambitious games of the year.

Mario Kart World remains a favorite on Nintendo consoles, but Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is poised to seriously challenge its position. While Mario stays true to its traditional cast, Sonic has decided to invite the entire world to race. This bold move could be the missing piece to attract a new wave of fans.

And the most curious thing is that this rivalry between the two characters is nothing new. In the 1990s, Sonic and Mario were direct rivals on consoles, vying for space in the living rooms of millions of families. Now, with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, this rivalry hits the tracks in full force and promises to divide opinions.
