Developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the game arrived in early access for PC and Xbox and quickly became a hot topic among survival fans. In a short time, the title surpassed the mark of 2 million copies sold, in addition to entering the Xbox Game Pass catalog. The sequel maintains the essence that made the first game captivating so many players: underwater exploration, resource management, base building, and that constant fear of hearing strange sounds coming from the darkness of the ocean. See the requirements below!

What is Subnautica 2?

Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival game set on a completely new alien planet. The plot follows colonists sent after conflicts involving the Alterra corporation, a familiar name to fans of the franchise.

But, as expected, absolutely nothing goes as planned. During the mission, the colony ship Cigarra suffers mysterious malfunctions, leaving the player trapped in a hostile environment, surrounded by unknown creatures and dangerous regions scattered throughout the depths.

While trying to survive, the player receives constant orders from the ship's artificial intelligence, insisting that the mission must continue. The problem is that, in Subnautica, every time someone says "everything is under control," it usually means the opposite.

Subnautica 2's requirements are already scaring some players

Many people started researching Subnautica 2's requirements soon after the first early access tests. Despite its stylized visuals, the game already demands relatively powerful hardware. This is because the new map features larger areas, more advanced lighting, improved artificial intelligence, and more detailed visual effects.

Check out the minimum Subnautica 2 requirements:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600
  • 12 GB of RAM
  • GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 5500 XT 6 GB
  • DirectX 12
  • 50 GB of free storage

The recommended Subnautica 2 requirements, however, raise the bar considerably:

  • Windows 11
  • Intel Core i7-13700 or Ryzen 7 7700X
  • 16 GB of RAM
  • RTX 3070 8GB or RX 6700 XT 8GB
  • DirectX 12
  • 50 GB available

The presence of 12 GB of RAM even in the minimum configuration already shows that the sequel aims to deliver more complex systems from the start of development.

Can Subnautica 2 run on a mid-range PC?

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions about Subnautica 2's requirements. The good news is that many mid-range computers can still run the game satisfactorily.

Graphics cards like the GTX 1660, RTX 2060, RX 6600, and similar models offer reasonable performance in Full HD at medium quality. On the other hand, those who intend to play at 1440p or 4K resolution will likely need a more powerful configuration, especially during multiplayer sessions.

It's also worth remembering that games in early access often have optimization issues in the first few months. So FPS drops, freezes, and minor bugs are still part of the current experience.

And let's face it: seeing your performance plummet just when a leviathan appears behind the submarine doesn't do much to control anxiety.

Early access available

Unknown Worlds Entertainment itself confirmed that early access should last between two and three years. During this period, the game will receive frequent updates with new content and improvements. According to the developers, the idea is to build the experience alongside the community, using player feedback to adjust balance, performance, and narrative.

This means that Subnautica 2 still has many changes to undergo before its final release.

Even so, the basis presented so far already shows an extremely ambitious project.

Price of Subnautica 2 on PC and Xbox

The initial price of the game was lower than many recent industry releases, especially considering the size of the project. Currently, Subnautica 2 is priced at around R$ 119 on major digital platforms.

The title can also be accessed through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which greatly contributed to the popularity of the release.

In addition, there is a special package that includes:

  • Subnautica
  • Subnautica: Below Zero
  • Subnautica 2

This bundle frequently appears at a promotional price in online stores.

Even though it's still far from its final version, Subnautica 2 is already demonstrating enormous appeal among fans of survival and exploration. The mix of alien oceans, base building, gigantic creatures, and cooperative multiplayer continues to work very well. And with several years of planned updates, the project is expected to grow considerably more.

Ultimately, the Subnautica 2 show that the new chapter aims to significantly raise the technical level of the franchise. And considering everything that has already appeared in early access, it seems that the sequel really wants to transform each dive into something more intense.
